About Yakima Tennis Club

 

 

The Yakima Tennis Club is a welcoming community of dedicated members, professional instructors and exceptional staff who promote a fun and active lifestyle through year-round tennis, pickleball, summer aquatics and social activities. We fully intend to live up to our mission statement and will make your club experience the best possible. We were founded in 1959 and are a member owned year-round tennis facility in the Yakima area.  The club, which hosts a number of USTA events, is considered one of the “premier outdoor tennis clubs” of the Pacific Northwest because of its facilities and setting.

Position Overview:

The Yakima Tennis Club aspires to be a friendly, inclusive, and welcoming place that encourages and promotes tennis to people of all ages and levels of ability. The Director of Tennis will promote tennis within Yakima and surrounding communities at large. To that end, the DOT shall devote full attention and energies to the performance of duties with support and counsel from our Board of Directors when needed. The DOT is responsible for creating tennis programming that serves YTC members and shall include lessons, clinics, tournaments, and social tennis events. The DOT will report to the General Manager (GM) and coordinate with specialized committees, GM, and any of our specialized departments to successfully present and facilitate all programming and special events.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Build and supervise tennis staff

  • Make sure administrative duties associated with the tennis department are completed

  • Hold frequent/regular meetings with the professional tennis staff to assure that tennis programs/activities are being implemented and run effectively

  • Review performance of YTC tennis programs/activities for effectiveness on a regular basis

  • Ensure all tennis programs and activities meet the physical, recreational and social desires and needs of members, as well as profitability needs of the club

  • Work with the GM on initiatives to help grow our membership base through lessons and other community opportunities

  • Assure that budgets are developed in coordination with the GM for the tennis department

  • Organize/conduct or oversee tennis tournaments

  • Initiate, develop and promote innovative tennis activities for members and guests

  • Be available to attend and report to regular and special meetings of the Board of Directors, club committees and staff meetings

  • Satisfy the demand for private lessons, group lessons, and clinics

 

Ideal Qualifications

USPTA Certification Elite Level

Safesport Certified

Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education

First Aid / CPR / AED certified

 

Job Type: Full-Time OT Exempt

Compensation: Salary, hourly, commission based on experience

We are looking for one more assistant professional to join our team!

Position Overview:

Provides positive tennis experience by providing the highest quality tennis instruction and customer service. Teaches various tennis programs including junior programs, lessons, special events, summer camps and adult team clinics. Position will work as part of a team with and under the support and supervision of the tennis director

Essential Duties:

Provides beginning through advanced instruction (private and group) for all levels and ages of players. Assists in the promotion of and conducting tennis clinics, private lessons, special events and programs to attract and maintain members’/guests’ tennis interests. Develops safe, professional, and comprehensive tennis lessons and programs to ensure students develop along a pathway that will encourage continued involvement in tennis. Assists in supervising play and ensures proper charging of fees. Ensure students understand tennis rules, scoring procedures, safety rules and tennis etiquette. Enforces all club rules and regulations governing the use of the club, its equipment and other property. Quickly and efficiently responds to member/guest questions, comments, and concerns in a professional, tactful manner. Incorporates safe work practices in job performance. Regular and reliable attendance. Performs other duties as required.

Education/Experience:

College tennis experience preferred. USPTA and/or PTR certification. Pickleball certification a bonus.

Job Knowledge, Skill, and Ability Preferences:

Skill level equivalent to a minimum 4.5 USTA rating. To perform this job successfully, an individual must have basic computer and email skills. Excellent customer service skills, friendly, outgoing, and positive attitude. Ability to build positive relationships with members and team members. Excellent communication skills. Ability to multi-task and learn quickly. Excellent time management and organizational skills. Thorough knowledge of the game of tennis. Effective teaching styles and techniques.

Compensation:

Depends upon experience and will likely include both hourly and commission rates.

$16 - $30 per hour
